Bridgeport Charter Township Police Department: Patrol Officer Closing Date: May 3, 2024

Bridgeport Charter Township Police Department services 36 square miles of land and over 10,500 residents. The community is diverse, and an officer can gain a large array of experience in a short amount of time while also engaging in the community through community connection activities. 

Police Pay range: As of August 2022

  • Entry level- $19.67
  • 66 months- $20.54
  • year- $21.40
  • 18 months- $23.10
  • 2 years- $23.32
  • 3 years- $28.20
  • 4 years- $30.35

Pay increases expected in 2023.

Shift premium given for hours worked between 6pm and 6am at .75 per hour.

Paid time off increased bi-annually with 28 hours accrued after 6 months of service and topping out at 232 hours after 10 years of service. Employees also have the ability to earn compensation time throughout the year during scheduled overtime/court time. 

Holiday pay is given for 14 holidays throughout the calendar year.

Health Insurance:

Blue Cross/Blue Shield HSA PPO:

  • After 90 days of service full time employees are eligible for medical coverage through Blue Cross/Blue Shield HAS PPO program. The employee is also issued a Clarity Benefit card to cover the cost of the yearly deductible.  
  • Employees are eligible for Delta Dental after 90 days of fulltime service.

Retirement:

MERS (Municipal Employees Retirement System) B-3 Defined Benefit Pension

Employees will contribute 4% while the employer will contribute 5%. There is a 2.25% multiplier, and the employee will be fully vested in their plan after 10 years of service with the retirement age of 60. Final average compensation shall be computed using the employees final three years of service and cannot include more than 240 hours of paid leave.

Other information:

Officers are a part of the Police Officers Labor Council Union, also known as POLC.

Though all uniforms, duty belts and essential gear is provided, full time employees are allotted $100 reimbursement per calendar year for other approved gear.

Officers have the opportunity to participate in the Saginaw Area Emergency Service Team and the Saginaw Area Crash Investigation Team.
Many opportunities to further the officer's knowledge through progressive training both in house and through other entities such as the Delta College Consortium, Mi Train, and MCOLES.
