Candidate must be MCOLES certified or certifiable. An Associate Degree in Criminal Justice is desired, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Applicants must be qualified for a concealed pistol license, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Michigan operator’s license with no restrictions, have no penal code violation convictions, pass a psychological/physical exam, pass a drug screening, oral assessment board and pass a background.
If given a final offer of employment, the applicant will require the passing of the department initial firearms qualification program, field training officer program and a probationary period of up to one year.
Starting pay is $62,529 ($30.06 per hour) which may be adjusted if applicant has prior police experience. Top pay will be reached after 3 consecutive years of employment with the department. Additional benefits include, but are not limited to, special certification pay, holiday pay (10 contractual holidays), longevity pay (from 2.5%-10%), medical insurance, sick time, vision/dental/hearing insurance, life insurance and a 401B retirement program.
