Inkster Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: February 20, 2024

Under the supervision of a higher classified officer, regularly patrols assigned areas of the city to prevent crime, maintaining public safety and order by enforcing local, state, and federal laws and ordinances. Inkster officers also perform specialized police activity such as criminal investigations and undercover surveillance and juvenile cases. Officers respond to approx. 24k calls for service per year in the 6.25 square miles of Inkster.


  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • U.S. Citizen
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Possess a valid Michigan Operator's license and meet minimum driving requirements
  • Possess the valid Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) license
  • Possess a clear criminal record
  • Be able to push, pull, and lift various weights


  • 2.75% pension multiplier / vested after 10 years

PAY SCALE beginning July 1st, 2023:

  • Start $21.75
  • End of Probation $23.38
  • 6 months after probation $24.20
  • 2 years $25.01
  • 3 years $26.91
  • 4 years $28.27
  • Additional pay steps upon promotion to Detective, Sergeant, or Lieutenant


  • Completion of High School diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Driver's License
  • Must have successfully completed the Police Academy
  • MCOLES Licensed in the State of Michigan
