Village of Akron Police Department: Chief of Police Closing Date: September 6, 2024

The Village of Akron Police Department seeks a qualified Police Chief to serve the community by operating a forty-hour-a-week Chief of Police Position while supervising two or more part-time officers. The Village of Akron also serves the Village of Fairgrove and Fairgrove Township, which equals 35.5 square miles and serves a community of over 2100 residents. The Village of Akron Police Department provides full-service policing, including enforcing local ordinances, traffic enforcement, and community relations with businesses and schools. The Police Chief is appointed by the Village President, with confirmation by the Village Council, and reports to the Village President. 

Hourly pay and health insurance are open to negotiation depending on law enforcement experience and education. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This is a working Chief of Police position.
  • Must be licensed as a police officer by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and possess a valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. 
  • Must possess a High School Diploma. 
  • Must communicate effectively with the public and maintain accurate records and reports. 
  • Must be able to work days, two weekends a month, and some late evenings. 
  • Possesses skills in equipment, computers, and related software.
  • Must be of good moral character and pass a background investigation.
