Barry County Sheriff's Office: Deputy Sheriff Closing Date: June 30, 2024

The Barry County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for multiple Deputy Sheriff Positions within the next few months.  Applicants must be MCOLES licensed or licensable by the end of the Academy. Academy sponsorships are also available upon discretion.  Applicants must successfully complete the pre-employment screening process.

Requirements:

  •  Candidates must be MCOLES licensed or eligible for licensing
  • Must pass a drug screen, physical, background investigation and psychiatric exam
  • Possess a valid operators license

Information:
The Barry County Sheriff's Office is a full-service Sheriff?s Office with highly trained deputies, as Evidence Technicians, Accident Reconstructionist, Firearms Instructors, Emergency Vehicle Instructors, a School Resource Officer, Taser Instructors, Field Training Officers, Defensive Tactics Instructors and an SRT Team.  Each of these positions train on a regular basis.

Wages:
Wages range from $54,185 ($24.81 hr. or possibly higher with experience) to start and top out after five years $70,390 ($32.23), with the current contract.

Work Hours:

  • 12 hour shifts with 84 hour pay period

County Description:
Barry County Covers 576 sq. miles with approximate population of 63,000 with 16 townships. There are five city / township police departments within the county. The Village of Middleville contracts through the Barry County Sheriff's Office. Overall, Barry County Sheriff's Office has a good rapport with all agencies within and surrounding areas. There are over 300 named lakes within the county, which is not including ponds and rivers that increase the population during spring through fall seasons. Barry County has several larger cities (Grand Rapids, Lansing, Battle Creek and Kalamazoo) within 15 miles of the county line. Hastings is the county seat. Barry County provides a family oriented area. Barry County is home to many local community events, quality schools and a quality of life that many people look for which includes: hunting, fishing, golf, recreation and trails. The Yankee Springs State Recreation Area has hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing and swimming which are the main tourist attractions in the 5,000 acre area which includes Gun Lake.
