City of Davison Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: October 1, 2024

The City of Davison Police Department is currently seeking a motivated and qualified individual to join our team. This position is responsible for safeguarding human lives, protecting property, and preserving peace and order in the City. Sworn members must be committed to protecting and serving with fairness, through partnerships that improve the quality of life in the Davison community as a whole.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the State of Michigan
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Possess a two-year degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for employment
  • Must be MCOLES licensed or licensable as a police officer in the State of Michigan prior to employment
  • Must have passed MCOLES pre-employment written and physical agility exams at the time of application
  • No felony convictions, and/or disqualifying criminal histories
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions of a police officer  
  • Possess excellent moral character
  • Must have a valid operator or chauffeur license and good driving history
  • Successfully complete a background, medical exam, drug screen, psychological exam, and all other phases of the selection process

WAGES AND BENEFITS:

  • 12-hour shifts, 80 hour pay periods
  • Five percent night shift premium
  • 14 holidays paid at 2.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay for all hours worked
  • Lateral Transfer Opportunities (a competitive wage may be determined by years of service) As of July 1, 2024, the current base hourly pay range was increased to $23.311 to $34.20, not including shift premium. With a six-year top-out wage scale. (Lateral Transfers from other agencies, will be considered for pay purposes only)
  • Detective and Sergeant premiums
  • Pension: MERS Defined Benefit Plan with a 1.50% multiplier, FAC–3, F55/25, 6-year vesting, and Act 88. Additionally, a Defined Contribution Plan with 5% contribution for both the Employer and Employee, with 5 year vesting
  • Health Savings Account upon retirement with Employer and Employee Contribution paid amount into account
  • Employer paid yearly amount into approved 457 plan(s)
  • An excellent healthcare plan, which includes medical, dental, and vision coverages for employees and eligible dependents and life insurance
  • Option to receive stipend in lieu of health care
  • Uniforms, external vest options. Equipment and dry cleaning are provided at no expense to the employee
  • Paid vacation, sick and personal leave time hours earned from day one and accrued based on years of service, with option to cash out 80 hours annually
  • Bereavement Leave
  • Department supplied uniforms/body armor/footwear/clothing
  • Department issued patrol rifle with lighted sight
  • Appropriate tattoos allowed on a case-by-case basis
  • Facial hair allowed, neatly trimmed
