City of Flat Rock: Police Officer Closing Date: November 15, 2024

The City of Flat Rock Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. The Flat Rock Police Department's mission is to protect the lives and property of the community we serve, to reduce crime and enhance the safety of the public and to do so with integrity, honor, and respect. 

Position Summary/Job Description: 

Perform the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer doing general patrol, to regulate traffic, protect life, property and prevent criminal activity; assist at traffic accident scenes, medical emergencies and fire emergencies; investigate criminal activities by obtaining and compiling information regarding those crimes; prepare cases to file appropriate charges, testify in court and related activities and carry out duties in the conformance of Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances.

This position requires substantial contact with the general public, court officials, city officials and other law enforcement agencies in the performance of police operating activities.

We offer Lateral Pay up to 4yrs of previous Law Enforcement experience. If you have experience with another agency, your experience will allow you to obtain a higher starting wage:

  • 2 years’ experience - $64,957.29 ($29.74 hour)
  • 3 years’ experience - $68,468.19 ($31.35 hour)
  • 4 years’ experience - $71,955.85 ($32.94 hour)

**Effective July 1, 2024**
Lateral officers will receive 84 hours vacation upon completing the FTO process.

The following is as of July 1, 2024:

  • Starting Salary for non-lateral: $57,959.33 ($26.53-Hourly)
  • Top out pay as of 06/30/2026 $78,628.51 ($36.00 Hourly)
  • 2025-2026 3% wage increase per POLC CBA
  • Defined Benefit Pension Retirement Plan (MERS)
  • Retirement 457 Plan (Up to 6% Match)
  • Deferred Compensation Program
  • Medical: HAP Health Insurance (PPO)
  • 14 Paid Holidays
  • 12-hour shifts with every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) scheduled off
  • Shift differential pay.

  • 84 Hours of vacation time after one year of service (non-lateral)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 Years of age
  • Legally Employable in the United States
  • Associate degree from accredited college or university or equivalent prior police experience.
  • All candidates must be able to be licensed by MCOLES and meet all MCOLES employment standards.
  • Licensed or licensable to become a Michigan Law Enforcement Officer
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
  • No Felony Convictions
  • All candidates must pass a background investigation, psychological examination, physical examination, and drug screen.
