City of Lapeer Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: July 1, 2024

The City of Lapeer Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Police Officer position.  This qualified applicant will be responsible for protecting and serving a population of approximately 9,000 residents in a police friendly community.  The City of Lapeer is located on M-24 and I-69 between Flint and Port Huron.  We are a community that has the foundation for rapid economic growth and will continue to grow for years to come.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the State of Michigan
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a two-year degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for employment.
  • Must be MCOLES licensed or licensable as a police officer in the State of Michigan prior to employment. 
  • No felony convictions, and/or disqualifying criminal histories.
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions as a police officer.
  • Must have a valid operator or chauffeur license and good driving history.
  • Possess excellent moral character.
  • Successfully complete a background check, medical exam, drug screen, psychological exam, and all other phases of the selection process.


  • Competitive wages start at $61,606 ($29.61 hourly) and top at $90,379 ($43.43 hourly) in 2026
  • MERS B-4 Pension with a 2.5% multiplier, FAC-5, F50/25 with 10-years vesting
  • City of Lapeer pays for the MERS contribution (more money in your check)
  • Zero out-of-pocket cost for Blue Cross Blue Shield medical insurance (more money in your check) 
  • Opt-out insurance is $10,503.92 (family $404.00 per pay), $8,054.53 (married $309.79 per pay), $3,851.42 (single $148.13 per pay)  
  • Health Care Saving Plan upon retirement 3% Employer Contribution 3% Employee
  • 104 Hours of holiday pay plus overtime on holidays worked
  • 13 holidays and 3 personal days per year  
  • 12-hour shifts, 80 hour pay periods 
  • $1.25 shift premium from 6pm to 6 am 
  • Up to 60 hours of comp time can be accrued 
  • Uniforms, external vest options.  Equipment and dry cleaning are provided at no expense to the employee. 
  • Outside employment with Chief approval


The City of Lapeer has recently approved lateral hires for police officers.  The City of Lapeer Police Department values experience, education, training, and police officers that have a proven track record of having an incredible work ethic and possessing a high moral compass.  The City of Lapeer Police Department will pay up to 4 years of wages and vacation time, as determined by the CBA, contingent on years of experience and training.
