Norton Shores Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: June 10, 2024

The Norton Shores Police Department is looking to hire full-time Police Officers.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in the protection of life and property, to include law enforcement, crime prevention, investigation and public assistance; and, performs other related duties as required.

This position is responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances necessary for the protection of life and property. Duties include prevention and detection of crime, maintaining law and order, conducting preventative patrols and traffic enforcement in assigned areas, public relations, and other special assignments as required. Work involves elements of personal danger. Assignments are received from ranking officers and are performed pursuant to established policies and procedures; however, employees must exercise judgement, skill, and discretion on a case by case basis. Work is reviewed through written reports, inspections, evaluations and discussions with supervisors.

Norton Shores is a beautiful community consisting of an economically secure mix of residential, commercial, and industrial zones. A large system of city parks and beaches, PJ Hoffmaster State Park, and six miles of Lake Michigan Frontage provide unique environments for our officers to work in. Further, Norton Shores is just 45 minutes from Grand Rapids and adjacent to Muskegon and Grand Haven. There are no residency requirements for Officers.

Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship, 21 years of age, No Felony convictions, favorable driving record, valid driver's license, physical and psychological ability to perform the essential job functions. Applicants must be MCOLES licensed or licensable by hire date.
