New Lothrop Police Department: Police Officer (Part-Time) Closing Date: September 30, 2024

The New Lothrop Police Department is accepting applications for a part-time police officer position. Prior law enforcement experience is required. The applicant must have good interpersonal and public relation skills and be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends. Shifts may vary from 6 to 8 hours.

REQUIREMENTS:

The applicant must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Be a United States Citizen
• Be 21 years of age
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license with good driving history
• MCOLES licensed or have successfully completed the MCOLES Recognition of Prior Training and Experience
• Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation
• No felony convictions
• Must have good moral character
• Must have basic computer skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform routine patrol / shift duties / taking and responding to calls for service
• Enforce all Federal and State of Michigan Laws, as well as Village Ordinances
• Conduct Criminal Investigations
• Enforces traffic laws and conducts traffic related investigations
• Makes arrests and interviews persons / subjects
• Effectively communicates verbally and in writing - capable of preparing police reports and citations
• Operate desktop and patrol car computer software

Essential Job Functions:

• Patrol in a vehicle
• Must be comfortable working in a rural, small-town setting where backup is often several minutes away
• Respond to calls for service
• Make arrests
• Prepare narrative crime reports and non-criminal reports, criminal investigations, and follow-up traffic crash investigations
• Participate in training sessions
• Participate in community-oriented events
• Display a positive and professional attitude and demeanor.
• Detain, search and question suspects as appropriate.
