The Chief will be expected to work a patrol shift and respond to calls. He will be supervising officers directly, without an intermediate supervisor. The Chief of Police will be a patrol officer who has responsibility for the agency's budget and personnel administration.

Job description will include but are not limited to: 

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of the police department, including directing patrol officers, and other personnel.
  • Establishing and enforcing policies, procedures, and protocols for the department to ensure efficient and effective law enforcement.
  • Coordinating with other local government agencies, such as the city manager, city council, and fire department, to address community safety and security concerns.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between the police department and the community, meeting with residents, business owners, and civic organizations to understand local issues and concerns.
  • Investigating serious crimes and incidents and overseeing the investigation process led by officers.
  • Allocating departmental resources, such as personnel, equipment, and budgets, to meet the public safety needs of the community.
  • Providing leadership, training, and guidance to ensure officers maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Representing the department at official functions and community events to build positive relationships and trust with citizens.
  • Staying informed on changes in laws, regulations, and best practices in law enforcement to ensure the department is operating in compliance and adopting appropriate strategies.
  • Investigating and enforcing local ordinances.
