Rockford Department of Public Safety Officers provide law enforcement, fire, and medical services to the City of Rockford residents and visitors. Public Safety Officers patrol assigned areas to prevent and deter crime, respond to calls for service, and provide emergency assistance for crimes in progress, fire emergencies, and medical emergencies. Public Safety Officers are responsible for making lawful arrests, enforcing laws, and traffic enforcement. Public Safety Officers also work with the community to strengthen community relationships.
JOB SUMMARY:
Public Safety Officers work primarily as a law enforcement officer and respond to fire and medical emergencies when they occur. The Public Safety Officer position is responsible for traffic enforcement, enforcement of all local, state, and federal laws, protecting persons and property, helping maintain peace and order, and general patrol responsibilities. Public Safety Officers are responsible for criminal investigations and arrests. Public Safety Officers are expected to engage with community members and promote good community relations.
