POSITION SUMMARY: 

The City of Monroe Police, established in 1837, has a rich history of serving the Monroe community for 175 years. Committed to excellence, the department continually strives to provide the highest level of service. In 2010, the department transitioned into a Public Safety Department, empowering officers with cross-training in firefighting alongside their traditional police duties. With a dedicated team of 38 sworn officers, the City of Monroe Police is actively seeking motivated individuals to join their ranks and contribute to our ongoing legacy of public service.

This full-time position is responsible for maintaining order, regulating traffic, protecting life and property, and providing assistance for emergency medical calls and other emergency response activities. An Associates degree from an accredited college with major coursework in criminal justice or a related field or two years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer and certification as a police officer by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) is required. Must possess a valid Michigan Vehicle Operator?s License and maintain a good driving record. Other State of Michigan certifications necessary to perform in the position are radar operator, firearms qualifications, and Class II Breathalyzer Operator. Ability to prepare investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations. Officers are required to operate an emergency vehicle safely during the day and night, in both emergency and pursuit situations, even at speeds exceeding posted limits while exercising due care and caution. Understand relevant laws and policies to ensure proper officer conduct during enforcement activities. Direct Traffic and serve legal documents such as subpoenas and warrants.
