Franklin-Bingham Farms Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: March 15, 2024

The Franklin Bingham Farms Police Department is currently accepting employment applications from qualified candidates to join our team for the position of full-time Police Officer in Patrol.  At the current time, there is one (1) full-time opening in Patrol, but another position will become available during August 2024.  Our department covers two Villages in Southeastern Michigan, Franklin and Bingham Farms, with a total residential population of about 5,000 people.  The population of our jurisdiction quadruples every business day due to commercial properties and businesses along Telegraph Road, which are within a designated Special Assessment District (SAD).  

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must have reached 21st birthday at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license with an excellent driving history.
  • Must possess a minimum Associates degree or 60 credits from an accredited college or university (Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required).
  • Ability to successfully pass an extensive background check, physical examination, psychological examination and drug screening test.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions of a Police Officer.
  • Must be licensed as a Police Officer by MCOLES. 
  • Ability to complete all phases of the selection process.
  • Preference is given to those with prior experience as a certified Police Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine patrol / shift duties / taking and responding to calls for service.
  • Enforce Federal and State of Michigan laws, as well as local Village ordinances.
  • Conduct criminal investigations.
  • Enforce traffic laws and conducts traffic-related investigations.
  • Make arrests and conduct interviews of persons / subjects.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing - capable of preparing detailed and articulate police reports, citations, search warrants, and warrant requests.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with residents, visitors, businesspersons and others. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • The current salary range is $59,084.00 to $81,267.00 after four years of service.  It should be noted that the current Union contract ends on 12/31/2024 and is currently being re-negotiated.  
  • All uniforms and firearm provided at time of hire.  $1,000.00 uniform allowance paid every year, after first year. 
  • MERS B-2 (defined benefit) 2.0% multiplier.  Retirement at age 50 with 25 years of service.  
  • BCBSM Health Insurance.  Dental/Optical Insurance also provided.  
  • Twelve paid holidays per year.
  • Retirement Health Care provided.
