Meet the Director
Gordon Wenk was appointed as MDARD's Director by Governor Rick Snyder in March 2018. He has worked with the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development for more than 35 years and had previously served as Chief Deputy Director since June of 2008. Prior to that, Mr. Wenk served as Director of MDARD's Environmental Stewardship Division.
He was integral in the implementation of the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program in partnership with the USDA and the Michigan Departments of Natural Resources and Environmental Quality. He also led in the development of the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program—a voluntary, farmer-led program now used as a national model for environmental programs.
Mr. Wenk graduated from Michigan State University.
