It is legal to sell firewood in Michigan but MDARD does not recommended that it be moved long distances. To protect against the further spread of EAB, as well as other forest pests such as oak wilt and beech bark disease, firewood that is certified as heat treated should be used. If certified firewood is not available, obtain firewood local to the area where you will be using it. Find firewood in Michigan at FirewoodScout.org.

Land owners, land managers or local units of government can have rules or regulations in place restricting the movement of firewood or other articles onto the lands they are responsible for. Many private campgrounds do not allow firewood to be brought in. Travelers are urged to check for these types of restrictions prior to traveling with firewood.
