I don't qualify for the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and need to take a Medical Leave. What should I do?
If you are not eligible for FMLA, you may still be eligible for a Medical Leave under Civil Service Rules or your collective bargaining agreement.
The table below depicts general entitlement information; this is a guideline and you should refer to your union contract or Civil Service Rules. You may contact the DMO at 877-766-6447, option 2, if you are unsure of your entitlement.
AFSCME |
Employees are entitled to 6 months of leave within a 5 year period if less than 20 years of service. Employees with over 20 years of service may be granted an additional 6 months at the discretion of the appointing authority. |
SEIU/Scientific and Engineering |
Employees are entitled to 6 months of leave and may be granted an additional 6 months at the discretion of the appointing authority. |
SEIU/HSS, |
Employees are entitled to 6 months of leave within a 5-year period. |
Non Represented Employees |
An appointing authority may grant an eligible employee an absence without pay up to 6 months. |
