Introducing Benefits Open Enrollment & Plan Changes
After having two Benefits Open Enrollment (BOE) periods in 2020, the combination of benefits and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) into one BOE period, the introduction of a new health plan option, and the move to a calendar-based plan year, the CY2022 Benefits Open Enrollment will feel much more like the open enrollment employees are used to!
Running from October 18, 2021 through November 9, 2021, there will only be a single, combined enrollment period for BOE moving forward, giving employees the ability to enroll in or change both benefit and FSA elections for the plan year. The effective date for elections and changes is January 1, 2022, and when deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums (OOPMs) reset. The final day of the 2022 plan year will be December 31, 2022. Documentation must be provided by November 12, 2021.
No new plans are being introduced during BOE this year, but employees are reminded of the addition of the State High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with Health Savings Account (HSA) last year, the first offering of its type to all eligible1 state employees.
Starting January 1, 2022, the State Dental Plan annual benefit maximum for Diagnostic & Preventive Services, Basic Services, and Major Services will increase to $2,0002, up from the current $1,500 maximum.
The BOE website, www.mi.gov/BOE, remains the one-stop-shop for enrollment information, and www.mi.gov/FSA is still the home for FSA resources as well.
You do not need to re-enroll each year to retain your existing insurance elections, but you are strongly encouraged to review your elections each year to ensure that your benefits will meet your needs for the coming year. FSA elections do not automatically renew. You must re-enroll each year if you wish to participate in the FSA benefit.
1MSPTA-represented (T01) employees and Other Eligible Adult Individuals (OEAIs) and their dependents are not eligible for this benefit.
2Michigan State Police Troopers Association (MSPTA) member's Plan Year continues to be October - September and the annual maximum remains $1,500 per person total per Plan Year on Diagnostic & Preventive Services, Basic Services, and Major Services.
