The Department of Community Health (DCH) is responsible for the development of state health policy and management of the state?s publicly funded health service systems. DCH and its eight Mental Health hospitals and centers across the state provide and coordinate health services for individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illnesses and substance abuse problems. The Forensic Center assesses individuals charged with criminal actions to determine fitness to stand trial and provides other services associated with forensic medicine.

The DCH also funds drug law enforcement, drug treatment, education and prevention programs and administers the crime victim?s rights fund. Other programs DCH funds, administers and/or supports are health needs assessments, health promotion, disease prevention, Medicaid health care coverage for individuals with limited income, and the promotion of independence and dignity of our senior population.
