The DOC protects the public by isolating and supervising convicted adult felons. The DOC has jurisdiction over all adults convicted of felony crimes who are sentenced to prison for at least 12 months. The DOC operates 44 prisons, 13 prison camps, supervises prisoners in halfway houses, and monitors individuals on home confinement with electronic devices. Convicted felons not sentenced to prison are supervised in the community through the state probation system. The DOC also operates the Special Alternative Incarceration program, or ?Boot Camp?, for first-time offenders.
