LANSING – Time for public input on the proposed draft state Social Studies standards will be extended through September 30, the Michigan Department of Education announced today.

“With the great level of interest in the development of the revised Social Studies standards, we are extending the public input time in order to continue reaching across the state for additional comment,” said Interim State Superintendent Sheila Alles.

The Michigan Department of Education already has conducted 11 “Listen and Learn” public input sessions across the state and will add more dates and sites that will run from August through September.

The dates and locations of the future Listen and Learn events still are being finalized, with plans to include sites in the U.P., Northern Michigan, West Michigan, Metro Detroit, and Ann Arbor areas. The details will be made public when they are finalized.

Input still can be provided online through September 30, as well. Go to and click the “Request For Public Comment” box to access the proposed draft version of the Social Studies standards and to offer online comments.
