This action team will work through the details of identifying and prioritizing additional indicators of school quality and student success that can be incorporated into the state accountability system and transparency dashboard and meets the established targets:

  • Allows for meaningful differentiation in school performance
  • Is valid, reliable, comparable, and statewide across each grade span
  • Includes one or more measures of: student or educator engagement, student access to/completion of advanced coursework; postsecondary readiness; school climate and safety, or any other indicator chosen that meets the federal requirements
  • Allows for reporting of, and comparison on, the measure/indicator by different subgroups of students

The Additional Indicator of School Quality and Transparency Dashboard Action Team will be responsible for recommending the measures of school quality and student success that will comprise the “fifth indicator” of Michigan’s accountability system under ESSA.  The Action Team staff will be working closely with the staff of the Accountability System-Technical Action Team, which is responsible for making recommendations regarding the state’s overall accountability system.
