- Dr. William Pearson - Interim Deputy Superintendent, Educator, Student, and School Support
In November 2020, Dr. William Pearson was appointed as interim deputy superintendent in the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).
Pearson had served as head of MDE’s office of partnership districts since December 2018. As the interim deputy superintendent in the division of educator, student, and school support, Pearson oversees state assessments and accountability; educator excellence (certification, permits, recruitment, and retention); local school district supports; and education technology.
In his 40-plus years in public education, Pearson spent 23 years as a local superintendent of the South Lyon, Mount Clemens, and St. Johns school districts. Pearson has been a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator, with a proven record of leading student achievement; and financial and academic turnarounds. He has been an adjunct professor at Eastern Michigan University, Oakland University, and Mercy College.
Pearson also has received many awards for his work at the local and regional levels. Among those honors, he was selected Region 9 Superintendent of the Year by the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) in 2012; was past-president of the Oakland County Superintendent’s Association.
