Tobacco-Related Disparities: Veterans

Veterans are individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces (not including those dishonorably discharged).

In Michigan, the commercial tobacco use rate among veterans is 21.6 percent. Veterans experience high rates of health conditions related to commercial tobacco use.

Veterans can access tobacco cessation support through Veterans Affairs, TRICARE Health system, which can provide nicotine replacement therapy and counseling. Please visit our How to Quit Tobacco webpage for more resources and information about these services.

The Michigan Tobacco Quitline (1-800-QUIT-NOW) can provide support for individuals who want to quit smoking.

For additional resources and webinars, please visit our MDHHS Tobacco Control Program Online Tobacco Resource Library page.

More data and reports related to commercial tobacco use and quitting rates can be found on our Data & Statistics About Tobacco in Michigan webpage.
