Health and Mental Health Information and Resources
Welcome to our new Health and Mental Health Information and Resources page for child welfare in Michigan! Formerly know as Fostering Mental Health, the Child Welfare Medical Unit worked diligently to create the page you are currently visiting. The information in this portion of the website is a collaborative effort between MDHHS and many partner organizations across the State of Michigan. Our goal is to provide child welfare health information which focuses on three main ideas: safety, permanency, and wellbeing. Whether you’re a casual visitor, parent, foster parent, caseworker, child welfare professional, or medical provider; there will be useful information to discover in the sections below.
About Us: The Child Welfare Medical Unit (CWMU) develops programming, protocols, and policies that are responsive to the physical, dental, mental, and behavioral health needs of children in foster care.
Mission Statement: The Child Welfare Medical Unit works with its partners within MDHHS and in communities across Michigan to support the health and well-being of children in foster care, because well-being is key to both permanency and safety.
