2019 Take Your Legislator To Work Campaign

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council will again, be sponsoring the “Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign.” The purpose of this campaign is for legislators to job shadow constituents with disabilities at their place of individualized, integrated, employment. This is a great opportunity for you to show your legislators the contributions that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities make to Michigan’s workforce as well as celebrate NDEAM during October.

If you choose to participate you will be able to:

  • Meet your Michigan Legislators in your home district

  • Have them tour your workplace, meet your employer and co-workers

  • Discuss individualized, integrated, employment and why it is important to you.

Job shadowing during the campaign will be scheduled by DD Council staff and will take approximately 1-2 hours. The time scheduled for the job shadow will be coordinated with you and your employer.  A NDEAM Kick Off event will be held in Lansing on October 4, 2018 to recognize those who participated. You will receive a formal invitation at a later time, and receive a certificate of appreciation as part of the ceremony.

Please fill out the application below. You also need to have your employer sign the letter of support and return those as indicated on the forms.   Once we receive your application and letter of support, we will screen them based on the criterion listed on the application and then contact you.   If you have any questions, contact the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council, at (517) 284-7295.
