Promoting Health Equity and Eliminating Disparities in Michigan's Diverse Communities.
The Office of Equity and Minority Health (OEMH) actively addresses social determinants of health to diminish disparities among Michigan's racial and ethnic minority populations. OEMH collaborates on strategies within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to improve health outcomes for these communities and advocates for culturally and linguistically appropriate health services.

Our mission is to work towards ensuring health equity and eradicating health disparities continuously and steadfastly among Michigan's diverse communities, which include American Indians/Alaska Natives, Arab and Chaldean Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Black/African Americans, and Hispanics/Latinos.
Our Vision
The Michigan Office of Minority Health was established by Executive Order in 1988 as the coordination body for monitoring health disparities and health inequities faced by Michigan’s racial ethnic minority populations. Minority Health Bill- Public Act 653 was passed by Michigan’s 93rd Legislature in 2006 and became effective in January 2007. The law mandates the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to create a structure and policies to address health disparities.
