Bridges and Public-Private Partnerships (P3s)

What does "bridge bundling" mean and how could it save money?
Bridge bundling means selecting bridges in need of repair that are in close geographic proximity to each other, so savings can be realized in mobilization, equipment and materials as opposed to single-bridge projects. Savings should be realized based on economy of scale.

How long are bridges expected to last as built now?
Bridges are designed to last 75 years, with several repair and maintenance projects within the life of the bridge. MDOT is proposing to use innovative, durable and long-lasting materials to lengthen the overall life of the structures while decreasing life-cycle costs. Accelerated bridge construction techniques also will be used to decrease user impacts during construction.
