The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host a public open house to discuss the addition of a dedicated center left-turn lane on US-127 Business Route (BR) (Clare Avenue) from Bilkare Street to Stockwell Road in Hayes Township. MDOT is seeking public input regarding the addition of the center turn lane, as well as the proposed removal of access to US-127 BR from Bass Lake Road. This project is in the early design phase, and tentatively scheduled for construction in 2019.

Individuals interested in learning more details about the project and sharing input regarding the access point at Bass Lake Road are invited to attend. MDOT staff will be on hand to answer questions.

US-127 BR (Clare Avenue) through Hayes Township has experienced a high number of serious crashes. The corridor qualified for federal safety funding in 2014 to support the addition of a dedicated center left-turn lane. Results of a 2016 road safety audit supported the dedicated left-turn lane and recommended closing access to the corridor at Bass Lake Road as a means of further reducing crash points. This recommendation was supported by MDOT, the Clare County Road Commission, Hayes Township, and the city of Harrison.
