The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), in partnership with the city of Midland, will reconfigure Buttles Street from three lanes to two lanes between M-20 (Jerome Street) and State Street. This will begin a three-year pilot project to improve safety and provide additional space for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The reconfiguration, also known as a road diet, will be monitored and re-assessed after three years before consideration of a permanent implementation.
