August 8, 2019 -- Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) contracting crews will be closing both directions of Maple Road under I-75 for bridge demolition starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The closure is needed for demolishing the northbound I-75 freeway bridge over Maple Road.

Currently, both directions of I-75 have two lanes open with all traffic using the southbound side of the freeway, separated by a temporary concrete barrier. This configuration will allow for the northbound lanes and bridges to be reconstructed this year and is expected to remain in place until late November. This weekend's closure will not impact traffic on I-75.

The posted detour for eastbound Maple Road includes Stephenson Highway and Big Beaver and John R roads. Westbound Maple Road detour includes John R Road, 14 Mile Road, and Stephenson Highway.

Starting at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, crews will close the northbound I-75 exit ramp to 14 Mile Road (Exit 65B) for 30 days to allow crews to rebuild the ramp. Northbound I-75 traffic will be directed to take Exit 67 to northbound Rochester Road, then eastbound Big Beaver Road to southbound John R Road back to 14 Mile Road.

This $224 million project involves reconstructing more than 8 miles of pavement, improving 18 structures, upgrading drainage, constructing community-developed aesthetics and federally approved noise walls, and continuing construction of an additional travel lane between Coolidge Highway and 13 Mile Road.
