I-96 Road and Bridge Reconstruction, Grand Rapids

Start: March 2018     End: October 2018
What Is Being Done?

Work includes reconstructing I-96 between West River Drive and the Grand River, as well as bridge improvements over US-131, the Grand River, Coit Avenue, Monroe Avenue, and West River Drive. The project also includes extending and widening the M-44 Connector (Plainfield Avenue) ramp to westbound I-96.

How Traffic Will Be Affected:

This work requires closing and detouring I-96 one direction at a time. The work on eastbound I-96 is complete and open to traffic. Westbound I-96 is closed at Plainfield Avenue and is scheduled to re-open in mid-September. Westbound I-96 through-traffic should take westbound I-196 to northbound US-131, then westbound I-96. The westbound I-96 off ramp to Plainfield Avenue will remain open.

Safety Benefit:

This project will increase safety, improve the ride quality and extend the service life of the road and bridges.
