I-75 Business Spur Reconstruction/Roundabout, Sault Ste. Marie
Investment: $11.2 million
MDOT and the City of Sault Ste. Marie are investing $11.2 million to reconstruct 2.2 miles of roadway and construct a roundabout combining the intersections of 3 Mile Road/Mackinac Trail and I-75 Business Spur/Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie. The project includes modernizing two traffic signal locations. As part of the project, the city will also construct sidewalks. The project is scheduled to be constructed in phases over two years.
One lane will be open in each direction for the duration of the project.
The project will extend the roadway service life, improve ride quality, drainage and safety while reducing maintenance costs. The new roundabout and other changes will reduce traffic conflict points, improving safety, visibility and access to the business spur. The sidewalk project will fill in gaps in pedestrian mobility along the corridor.
