US-41 Houghton Reconstruction
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the City of Houghton are investing $9 million to reconstruct 1.1 miles of US-41 from McInnes Drive to Isle Royale Street in Houghton. The work will include converting the four-lane boulevard section to two lanes with designated turn lanes at major intersections and widening College Avenue to add a center left-turn lane.
One-way detours are planned during each summer for this reconstruction project.
The project will combine needed road work with storm sewer improvements, along with replacement of aging city sanitary sewer and water main. The project design will minimize or avoid impacts on the many historic features along the corridor.
Vehicle operations will be improved and pedestrian safety increased by this work.
