Streetcar Project Background and Visuals

This website has been developed by MDOT to provide project-related information for the planned Woodward Avenue Streetcar Project Environmental Assessment (EA) in Detroit. The project segment is approximately 3.3 miles in length along Woodward Avenue between Congress Street and Grand Boulevard. The streetcar project, including 12 stations, is proposed to run on both sides of the street in the curb lane, and will transition to center-running (in the median) at the north and south ends of the project.

The proposed alignment is similar, albeit shorter, than Alternative B3 analyzed in the Woodward Avenue Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) released in June 2011. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), MDOT, and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) will begin a review of the Woodward Avenue Streetcar Project and intend to prepare a supplemental EA for the proposed shorter alignment.
