M-26 lane closures in Eagle River Tuesday

September 9, 2019 -- Drivers on M-26 in the Eagle River area should expect lane closures and brief delays beginning this week as the next phase of a bridge repair project gets under way.

Tentatively starting Tuesday, Sept. 10, traffic will be disrupted at the M-26 bridge over the Eagle River in Keweenaw County. One lane of alternating traffic will be open using temporary traffic signals.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $2.2 million to improve the road and pedestrian bridges over the Eagle River. Work on the pedestrian bridge began earlier this summer. Work on the road bridge includes structural painting, substructure patching, asphalt overlay, approaches, guardrail, and pavement markings. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 10.
