US-8 bridge reopening delayed until Oct. 4

September 10, 2019 – The reopening of the US-8 bridge over the Menominee River near Norway has been delayed until Oct. 4. The detour currently in place was set to be lifted Sept. 13, but the bridge is now expected to be reopened to traffic on Oct. 4, weather permitting.

Northbound and southbound US-8 remains closed at the bridge. A posted detour remains in effect. Northbound US-8 traffic is detoured via US-141 through Niagara, Wisconsin, and on to US-2 near Quinnesec. The detour is reversed for southbound traffic. Access to the Menominee River will remain open on both sides of the bridge for the duration of the project.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are investing about $2.4 million to replace the bridge deck and railing and paint structural steel on the bridge over the Menominee River at the Michigan-Wisconsin state line. The project is behind schedule due to several construction operations that took longer to complete than originally anticipated.
