Left-turn signal changes at US-24 (Dixie Highway)/White Lake Road intersection in Oakland County
COUNTY:
Oakland
ROADWAY:
US-24 (Dixie Highway)
COMMUNITY:
Independence Township
START DATE:
Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019
PROJECT DETAILS:
The Michigan Department of Transportation is installing new traffic signals to change the operation of left turns at the US-24 (Dixie Highway)/White Lake Road intersection in Independence Township. The new signals will include a protected left-turn arrow signal on US-24 (Dixie Highway). Drivers on White Lake Road will continue to use a flashing yellow for making left turns. This change in operation is in response to crash history at this intersection.
TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Drivers on northbound and southbound US-24 (Dixie Highway) will now only be permitted to make a left turn during the green arrow phase, removing the current flashing yellow arrow option for these two approaches.
MDOT will monitor the changes and the effect they have on delays and safety at the intersection.
SAFETY BENEFIT:
This change in traffic signals is expected to improve the safety of the intersection and reduce the likelihood of head-on crashes at this intersection.
