I-96 Flex Route project: I-96 lane closures in each direction from Kent Lake Road to Beck Road this weekend

NOVI, Mich. - Work crews will have I-96 down to one lane open in each direction through the work zone between the I-275/I-696/M-5 interchange and Kent Lake Road this weekend. This work is weather dependent.

Eastbound I-96 will have one lane open from Kent Lake Road to Wixom Road from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. All the on and off ramps will remain open.

Westbound I-96 will have one lane open from Beck Road to Kent Lake Road from 6 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday. There will be intermittent ramp closures to and from Wixom, Milford and Kent Lake roads.

After this weekend, the following lane restrictions will be in place:
- Eastbound I-96 will have three lanes open during rush hours of 6-9 a.m. and 3-8 p.m. and two lanes open during off-peak hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 8 p.m.-6 a.m.
- Westbound I-96 will have three lanes open only during afternoon rush hours of 3-8 p.m. and two lanes open from 8-3 p.m.

This work is part of the I-96 Flex Route project that includes rebuilding the freeway, rebuilding the median shoulders for use during peak periods, sign upgrades, and active traffic management installation, including intelligent transportation systems (ITS) equipment, overhead gantry installation and ramp signals for metering traffic onto the freeway. Electronic message boards will alert drivers with speed advisories and travel information.

Funding for this project is made possible by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.

Based on the jobs number multiplier, this project will support 3,416 jobs.
