MDOT plans to rebuild 2.2 miles of I-75 Business Loop (BL) (South Otsego Avenue) between Wisconsin Avenue/Grandview Boulevard and the south I-75 exit in Gaylord. The project will include rebuilding the asphalt roadway, a new roundabout at McCoy Road, nonmotorized pathways, and streetscape improvements. A lane conversion, initially planned to be included in this project, has been removed.

Roundabouts help prevent severe crashes that often result in injuries or fatalities, while allowing better traffic flow than with a traffic signal. Road diets, or roadway reconfigurations, can improve safety, calm traffic, and provide better mobility and access for all road users, as well as enhance overall quality of life. Benefits include reduction of certain types of crashes, more consistent speeds, fewer lanes for pedestrians to cross, and the opportunity to install adjacent nonmotorized paths.
