US-127 Corridor Improvements

Start: Winter 2022     End: Fall 2026

Location: Ingham & Clinton counties

MDOT will be improving the US-127 corridor from the Ingham/Jackson county line north the I-69 interchange. Work be broken into several projects between summer 2022 through summer 2026. The majority of work for these projects will take place over several phases.

These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility in this area of US-127, which is a significant local and national trade corridor.

Funding for the majority of these projects is made possible by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan Program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.

US-127 resurfacing from the Ingham/Jackson county line to M-36

MDOT is investing approximately $67 million to resurface 12.5 miles of pavement, improve 10 structures, improve drainage, and install guardrail and barrier wall on US-127 between the Jackson/Ingham county line and M-36 in Ingham County.

Resurfacing southbound US-127 from Barnes Road to the Ingham/Jackson County Line and northbound US-127 from the Ingham/Jackson County Line to Kipp Road. Resurfacing ramps at Bellevue Road, Barnes Road, and Kipp Road interchanges. Installing cable median barrier from the Ingham/Jackson County Line  to Kipp Road, and median concrete barrier from Kipp Road to Cedar Street. Completing high-load hit repairs on the Barnes Road bridge over US-127.

Traffic restrictions:
This work will require shoulder and single-lane closures on US-127. During resurfacing, traffic will be maintained on the other side of the freeway via crossovers. Work will also require short-duration ramp and bridge closures. Check www.Michigan.gov/Drive for the most up-to-date lane closure information.

Bridge replacement of the SB US-127 ramp to WB I-496 & EB I-496 ramp to NB US-127

Start: February 2023

MDOT is investing approximately $8 million to replace two bridges within the US-127/I-496 interchange in Ingham County.

Traffic restrictions:
The southbound US-127 ramp to westbound I-496 and the eastbound I-496 ramp to northbound US-127 will be closed during this work. Traffic will be maintained via detours onto Howard Street and Homer Street, which provide access to and from US-127 and I-496.

US-127/I-496 from I-96 to I-496

Proposed start: Summer 2023

MDOT is proposing to rebuild and provide operational improvements on this segment of US-127/I-496 to address safety concerns, improve roadway geometrics, and improve vehicular movement, all while keeping future maintenance concerns, the environment, and cost-effectiveness in mind for roadway users by adding a permanent third lane through this corridor. This major project will also include improving and rebuilding bridges through this segment, as well as upgrades to drainage, signs, intelligent transportation systems, and pavement markings. This work is proposed to occur from summer 2023 through 2025.

To be provided at a future date.

US-127 from I-496 to I-69
