Forest Heritage Trail: On a footpath in a pine-and-hardwood forest, 3 V-shaped symbols mark a tree

Heritage trails connect people with the natural and cultural heritage of the landscape they are passing through.

Through the Heritage Trail Program, the Michigan History Center works with partners to create a deeper experience of place for trail users. A current project is the Forest Heritage Trail, a partially built segment of the Iron Belle Trail.

Share your story of the Forest Heritage Trail Tell us what you feel are the important natural or cultural heritage stories in the area between North Higgins Lake State Park and Hartwick Pines State Park, including the city of Grayling.

We invite you to explore our online calendar, where you'll find all Michigan History Center events throughout the state.
