Tawas Point Lighthouse Keeper Program
The Tawas Point Lighthouse Keeper Program has been suspended for 2023 but is expected to return in 2024.
In 2022, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources received $500,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act and other sources to preserve the tower of the almost 150-year-old Tawas Point Lighthouse. With preservation work due to begin in spring, the lighthouse keeper’s quarters and lighthouse tours will be unavailable for the 2023 season.
Located in Tawas Point State Park, East Tawas, the Tawas Point Lighthouse is a DNR Michigan History Center museum. Please watch this website for further details and for the 2024 Keeper Application. For more information, send email to DNR-Tawaskeepers@Michigan.gov or call 517-930-3806.
