On June 27, 2019, the Science Advisory Workgroup will present its final recommendations to a joint meeting of the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) and the Environmental Rules Review Committee, an oversight body housed in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The workgroup was created to advise MPART on health-based values, which are one factor that will contribute to the creation of drinking water standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Michigan.
Once accepted by MPART, the EGLE Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division will seek stakeholder input to consider these recommendations and other factors. When promulgated, public water supplies that exceed the new drinking water standards will be required to take corrective actions. Final rulemaking is expected to be complete by April 2020.
