EGLE issued a remarkable 2,284 permits in Fiscal Year 2020 for projects to help Michiganders protect homes and critical infrastructure from severe erosion and flooding associated with historically high Great Lakes water levels. Hundreds more permits were issued for preferred alternatives, such as moving homes and structures farther away from the shoreline.

In addition to organizing and hosting the Michigan High Water Summit to facilitate federal, state and local coordination on flood and erosion response activities, EGLE presented four virtual high water townhall webinars, which were viewed by more than 8,500 residents and community leaders across the state to learn more about the department's permitting programs.
