In 2020, EGLE issued $3.3 million in scrap tire grants —$1.2 million for 77 clean up grants; and $2.1 million for one law enforcement grant and three market development grants.

The Scrap Tire Program regulates transportation, storage and disposal of scrap tires, and operates through the Materials Management Division (MMD) in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

The program also supports development of markets and beneficial end uses of scrap tire products through EGLE grants.

More than 402,000 scrap tires were cleaned up under grant funding including two large private sites (almost 92,000 scrap tires were cleaned up from the Intervale site in Detroit and close to 49,000 scrap tires were cleaned up from the F&R site in Mecosta County).
