MI Student Aid Events

The MI Student Aid Outreach Team has updated available events to virtual and in-person platforms. We look forward to working with our high school partners, aid administrators, and community partners to continue supporting our students and families as they gather information on postsecondary financial aid options.

Types of Outreach Events

Financial Aid 101

  • In a student-focused financial aid overview where students learn about college options and college financing resources, students will be able to identify the different types of financial aid programs, along with information regarding where to access financial aid.
  • Suggested for 11th and 12th grade students. 
  • Virtual options are available - Virtual platform will be determined based on event coordinator access/needs.

Financial Aid Jeopardy

  • Students, broken up into teams, will learn financial aid basics and preparing for college in a fun and engaging game of Jeopardy. This activity will equip students with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate college in a financially responsible manner.
  • Suggested for 12th grade students.
  • Virtual options are available - Virtual platform will be determined based on event coordinator access/needs.

Financial Reality

  • In an interactive money management activity, students will learn how to balance a budget using checkbook registers. Students will enter a new dimension with a new career, family situation, responsibilities with the goal of paying all bills with money left over.
  • Suggested for 7th through 12th grade students.
  • Virtual options are available - Virtual platform will be determined based on event coordinator access/needs.

MiSSG Financial Aid Training for Counselors

  • This event will provide high school counselors and college access professionals with information on MI Student Aid resources available, such as: State financial aid programs, navigating the data management system, MiSSG, MI Student Aid Scholarship Search, Social Media, GovDelivery communication, and MI Student Aid Customer Care Center. Through discussion, counselors and college access professionals will share successful strategies, learn about MI Student Aid's regional approach, and how to implement MI Student Aid services into their work with students.
  • Suggested for High School Counselors and College Access Professionals.
  • Virtual options are available - Virtual platform will be determined based on event coordinator access/needs.

TIP Talk

  • In a TIP Talk, a MI Student Aid representative can meet with your students one-on-one to briefly discuss how they can maximize their use of the program. If your school does not have a DUA on file, the regional representative assigned to you can assist you through this process.
  • Each TIP Talk will take no more than 5-10 minutes.
  • Suggested for 11th and 12th grade students.
