Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund
June 5, 2018
The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument (MLEOM) Fund Commission will celebrate and honor the lives of Michigan law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty during the inaugural Race to Build the Monument 5k walk/run on Sunday, June 24, 2018. The community-oriented, fundraising event will raise awareness of Michigan’s fallen heroes while generating funds to support a statewide Memorial Monument in their honor.
“The Race to Build the Monument 5k will help raise funds to go toward building and maintaining a memorial to commemorate fallen law enforcement officers in the state of Michigan,” said John Szczubelek, assistant attorney general and chairperson of the MLEOM Fund Commission. “The Commission is approximately $300,000 from our fundraising goal, and we hope this event will bring us closer to the finish line.”
The 5K walk/run will be professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation and race results will be posted online by Playmakers.com. The run/walk will begin at 2 p.m. and start and end at 608 W. Allegan Street, Lansing, MI 48933, located near the site of future Memorial Monument. The future memorial site is located within the Veterans Memorial Park, at the corner of Allegan Street and Butler Boulevard, directly south of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in downtown Lansing.

In addition to the 5K run/walk, the Commission asks residents and businesses to consider donating to support the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument. Tax deductible donations can be made online by visiting www.mleom.org.
The Michigan Legislature created the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund 12 years ago to oversee the financing, design, and construction of a permanent memorial monument to honor the approximately 600 Michigan law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
