Information about the utility distribution system - where projects can interconnect to the system, how big those projects can be, and how the system would be impacted - is essential to understanding whether and where to site new projects.
Actions to Date
- MPSC Staff Electric Distribution Plan report (September 2018) suggests providing additional system-level data to third parties, exploring hosting capacity studies
- Initiate discussions about what info and system capabilities are necessary to conduct hosting capacity studies
- Host technical workshops with experts in hosting capacity to share lessons learned and data needs
- Examine feasibility of conducting studies and next steps including potential pilot for distribution plans
