- First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet)
Across the country, millions of law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other public safety personnel bravely serve their communities every day. They answer the call when emergencies strike and risk their lives to secure and protect others. FirstNet is developing the first nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) to provide our first responders access to the new technologies and increased data capacity they need to help them do their jobs safely and effectively. Just as smartphones have created a new era of access to real-time information for individuals, the FirstNet network will enable access to the real-time information the public safety community needs to save lives. The NPSBN will carry high-speed data, location information, images, and video that can mean all the difference when seconds count.> More

Education and Outreach
The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (Act) created FirstNet and provided the blueprint for its mission to build, operate, and maintain the NPSBN. The Act also requires FirstNet to consult with regional, state, local, and tribal jurisdictions to ensure that the NPSBN is designed to meet public safety’s needs. In Michigan, planning and outreach efforts with FirstNet have already begun.> More
Throughout 2017, the MiPSB Team conducted a series of webinars that provided fundamental information about FirstNet, the current status of the nationwide deployment, and updates on federal and state activities.

- PSBN Questions for Vendors
The Michigan Public Safety Broadband Workgroup has developed the attached document of questions and discussion points for public safety agencies to use when working with public safety broadband providers. The document is not intended to promote or recommend one vendor over another, but to assist agencies in forming a clear and comprehensive picture of the services being offered as they work with prospective vendors.> More
Michigan's Public Safety Broadband Workgroup
The MiPSB Workgroup is established under Michigan’s Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board (MPSCIB), the State’s Interoperable Governing Board. The Workgroup is comprised of a cross-functional, geographically diverse team that include representation from local, state, and tribal entities. Its purpose is to gather, analyze, and disseminate information relevant to the activities of FirstNet, and aggregate the information into recommendations for the MPSCIB.
Michigan's Public Safety Broadband Program
FirstNet is required to consult with regional, state, tribal, and local jurisdictions to ensure that the FirstNet network is designed to meet the needs of the public safety across the country. In Michigan, FirstNet works through the State’s Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and the MiPSB Program to gather requirements from key stakeholders. The MiPSB Program, established under the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB), provides direction and administrative support for Michigan’s public safety broadband initiatives and is actively working with the MiPSB Workgroup and FirstNet to develop a strategic approach for the deployment and operation of the FirstNet network within Michigan.
